The relay kicks off in Perry Saturday.  The Northern Dallas County Relay for Life event starts at 11am at the Kauffman track at Perry High School.

Co-Chair Misty VonBehren encourages all community members to come take part.

“You don’t think that coming out on that track to just walk around and maybe buy a hot dog or something really makes a difference but it truly does.  It’s aw-inspiring to see how much our little community can give back” says VonBehren.

The opening ceremonies at 11 will include a parade of teams where the 25 local teams will show off their wagons in the first contest of the day.  The 12 hour event follows the 12 months of the year with seasonal activities such as food on a stick competitions, costume contests, a food eating contest and a Tree of Hope.

Of course there will be the traditional Relay for Life events as well such as the Survivor meal and ceremony and the luminaria ceremony.

The closing ceremonies will begin at 10pm.  All proceeds raised through the various Relay events will go to help fight cancer through the American Cancer Society.
