We now have more information on the Boone County accident that killed two grandparents and sent several others to the hospital.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 15 year-old Daniel Peter of Ames was heading westbound on highway 30 with his grandparents in a 1996 GMC Jimmy, Saturday afternoon.  Before approaching the intersection of Noble Hills Place, Peter changed lanes to make a left-hand turn.  The vehicle was then rear-ended by a 2003 Hummer Limo driven by 43 year-old John Barker Jr. of Des Moines.  Peter’s vehicle ran off the road to the left, rolled once, ejecting 80 year-old Delbert Peter from the backseat, and coming to rest in the median.

Delbert Peter was transported via air ambulance to Iowa Methodist Hospital where he later died.  77 year-old Dorothy Peter was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eleven other passengers, who were in the limo heading from a wedding to a reception in Ames were also taken to the hospital to be treated. 25 year-old Loyd Hise of Guthrie Center and 28 year-old Danielle Katch were both taken to Mercy Hospital via Mercy One.  William Snook, Jessica Katch, Joseph Renda, Travis Knox, Cari Watts, Elaine Moore, Chad Niehaus, Peyton Young and Deanna Polle were all treated for minor injuries at the Boone County Hospital.

Danielle Katch was treated and released, Hise remains in critical condition.

The accident is still under investigation, no word yet on any charges being filed.
