During hot summer days like today it’s important we think of the safety of others around us.

Dave Herrick, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy encourages us all to check on our elderly neighbors during heat advisories.

“They may not have family immediately in the area or whatever that can check on them daily.  So, if you have one of those neighbors who maybe doesn’t get out of the house much, it’s a good idea to go check on them maybe once a day” says Herrick.

Herrick says not everyone has air conditioning and sometimes just using a fan may not cut it.  He also recommends checking on your neighbors during power outages.

Of course it’s also important to make sure you and your family stay cool, out of the sun and well hydrated during these heat waves.
