Out of the 12 cities that will receive a Governor’s Iowa Environmental Excellence Award today, Perry is one of them.

The city is being acknowledged because of its ability to integrate sustainability with its public infrastructure system; projects like redeveloping formerly contaminated sites, using CFL lighting in public buildings, and taking advantage of wind energy technology.

The Excellence Awards are some of the highest honors in terms of environmental achievement and focus on reducing waste generation, developing energy efficient technology, and using programs that balance both economics and environment.
