Law enforcement agencies across the county will be cracking down on impaired drivers this 4th of July.

The Jefferson Police Department is taking part in the ongoing “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement crackdown that aims to arrest impaired drivers who put both themselves and others at risk.

According to 2010 figures, there is one alcohol-impaired driving fatality every 51 minutes in the U.S. and those numbers spike around the 4th of July.

Officer Heath Enns says there are several consequences that can result from being caught driving under the influence such as harming others, jail time, insurance hikes, potential loss of driver’s license.

The Independence Day enforcement crack down will run July 2nd through 8th.
