The downtown restoration project in Jefferson continues to move forward.

City Administrator Mike Palmer says work at the intersection of Chestnut and State has been completed.  Contractors will start installing the pavers on Thursday, followed by the reopening of the intersection.  Once Chestnut and State is completed, the intersection of Chestnut and Lincoln Way will be closed for replacement.

Crews are also in the process of adding an 8 foot wide access ramp between the northeast corner of Lincoln Way and Wilson Avenue to the courthouse plaza.

So far this year, 1,500 feet of sidewalk has been replaced in Jefferson.  The voluntary sidewalk replacement program enables residential property owners to get the portion of the existing sidewalk in the right-of-way of their property replaced.  The City pays for a private contractor to remove and install the concrete and the owners are only billed for the cost of materials.  Palmer says since the program started almost 4 years ago, approximately 4,000 feet of sidewalk has been replaced.
