Even though the weather has cooled down a bit and we’ve had some rain lately, many are still worried about how the drought will affect us in the long term.

City Administrator Mike Palmer says Jefferson has 6 wells that they use to supply the normal daily demand of about 500,000 gallons of water.  Palmer says with the heat, construction and increased demand from users outside of City limits, the July consumption average was approximately 625,000 gallons per day.

Palmer says the water department is closely monitoring the wells to see if they need to put conservation practices in place but so far there has not been a significant drop in the water levels.
