Children in Guthrie Center and the surrounding area will now be able to get health care right in their backyard, thanks to the new pediatrics department at the Guthrie County Hospital.

Dr. Cody Silker and registered nurse Megan Erickson are the newest team members at the GCH Family Medicine Clinic in Guthrie Center.  Previously the duo worked together at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines.  Dr. Silker assisted in creating the department with GCH’s CEO and once what was complete, she convinced Erickson to join her.

Dr. Silker and Erickson care for children from birth to 18 years of age and older.  Specializing in all aspects of medicine including routine well-child check-ups, immunizations, behavioral and developmental issues, sports physicals and injuries.

In addition to their time in Guthrie Center, Silker and Erickson also see patients in Panora, Stuart and Adair.

Dr. Silker says she is looking forward to working in a small town because she grew up in a small community in Minnesota, close to the Iowa border.  Growing up, Silker says whenever she needed to see a Dr., her only option was the regular family physician since a pediatrician was not available.

Both providers feel their experience working with children will be beneficial to these small communities as they have been trained to care exclusively for children.
