The high school cross-country season begins on August 23 for the Greene County Rams at the Gilbert Invitational held in Ames on the Iowa State University Course. Coach Kelly Simpson said the ISU course is where the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet is held later this season, so this meet gives the Rams an early look at the course. “It gives us a chance to set some times and some goals for that meet,” the coach commented. Simpson said the Gilbert meet will have a variety of schools participating. “This meet has grown in size and now we’re one of the smaller schools in a two-division meet with a lot of Class 3A and even 4A schools in it, so we’re going to have to put things in perspective, go out and run the course, and see what happens from there.”
