The Perry Jayette volleyball team opens their season Saturday with a trip to defending Raccoon River Conference champion Bondurant Farrar and the Skip Anderson Classic.  Perry coach Carol VanKirk has been happy with her team’s work ethic this summer.  “We have 33 girls out this year, that’s more than we’ve had in the past few years.  An enthusiastic group with a lot of new freshmen and a strong senior class.  Over the years my philosophy has changed a little bit..winning is still a priority, but you have to make it fun for these kids because it is a lot of time and a lot of commitment.”

Perry will look to 5 seniors to provide leadership this season.  Frankie Eklund, Haley Irwin, Becca Minor, Shannon Thompson and Katie Miller represent the senior class with Eklund bring the most accolades with her 2 Second Team All Conference honors.  Back row specialist will be Julie Dew, Mary Wilhelmi and Katelyn Whelchel while Maggie Lowe and Haley Irwin will handle the setting duties.

Perry’s home opener will be Thursday, September 6th with the Perry Invitational.

Listen to Coach VanKirk Tuesday at 7:40 am and 5:20 pm on KDLS.
