When Greene County hosts Perry in the annual Cowbell football game on August 24 in Jefferson it will mark the first 11-player contest for some as high school players. Students from East Greene played the eight-player version of football until this season when they joined players from Jefferson-Scranton and Paton-Churdan to form the Greene County Rams.

Among those making the transition is senior quarterback Tori Beger. He threw for 2,558 yards in nine games as a junior for the Hawks, who used a wide open spread attack on offense. Greene County head coach Dean Lansman, himself an East Greene graduate, reports the Rams will likely throw the ball more than in the past to take advantage of Beger’s talents and those of his receivers.

Kickoff between the Rams and Blue Jays is set for 7:30 p.m. and the varsity contest will follow a 4:45 p.m. freshmen game. The varsity game can be heard on both KDLS 1310 AM and KGRA 98.9 FM.
