In the inaugural football game for Greene County High School players from both merging Jefferson-Scranton and East Greene were there, the crowd was there, the electricity was there, but for the home team the big plays didn’t follow.  Perry High School got things going, breaking a second quarter scoreless game on a drive that took just three plays and fifty seconds with a 25-yard touchdown reception from Will Whiton to Ben Daniels.

Whiton also ran in the botched extra point attempt to all Perry to take an 8-0 lead into the half but came out on fire in the second half with Daniels scoring twice more on the ground, on a 6-yard sweep to the left and a 60-yard run where he was twice almost tackled for a loss and spun around and out of danger to eventually find the end zone.  Whiton also found the back of the end zone on a 15-yard run.

Coach Olejniczak stated before the game he wanted to limit Greene County’s big plays and must have been happy after the longest play from scrimmage for the Rams was just sixteen yards.  The Rams broke up the shutout with a 1-yard run by quarterback Tory Beger with 4:16 remaining in the game making it 27-7, but the Bluejays were able to pound the ball and run out the rest of the clock.

The Bluejays head home to host Boone next week for a 7:30 kickoff, which can be heard on 1310 AM KDLS.  The Rams are in search of their first win as Greene County High School, they travel to Alleman to take on North Polk, with a 7:30 start on 98.9 KG98.
