Greene County cross-country coach Kelly Simpson was pleased with the first meet of the season for his teams on August 23 and hopes to see improvement when the Rams run at the Dallas Center-Grimes Invitational on August 28. Greene County was seventh among nine girls’ teams and eighth among nine boys’ teams in Class A at the Gilbert Invitational held in Ames on the Iowa State University course. The girls were led by sophomore Allison Higgins, who placed twenty-third, while the boys were led by senior Jacob Simpson, who finished in eleventh place.

Coach Simpson said, “With temperatures in the mid 90’s at race time and being the first day of school, we set our goal to simply run the course and learn the layout of  the terrain. To my surprise, the team recorded much faster times than what was expected and really allowed us to build some early season confidence.”
