The West Central Valley Wildcats varsity volleyball team improved their record to 6-9 this weekend at the Guthrie Center tournament securing wins over Colfax Mingo and Guthrie Center.

WCV knocked off Colfax-Mingo convincingly in straight sets by scores of 21-9 and 21-15.  Jess Pieper led the way for the Wildcats with 6 kills on 11 attempts and 2 blocks.

WCV dropped their match to Coon Rapids in 3 sets, losing 21-18, bouncing back and winning 23-21 but then running out of gas and losing the tiebreaking set 15-4.  Cheyenne Wagner helped keep the Wildcats in the match with 3 kills on 9 attempts, 5 digs and 100% serving while Allie Fillman also had 100% serving and 17 digs.

The Wildcats lost to Glidden-Ralston in 3 sets as well, dropping the first set 21-12 before in an exciting and intense second match winning 29-27 before dropping the third by a score of 22-20.  Jess Pieper again was a leader for the Wildcats with 10 kills on 27 attempts and 4 blocks and Kayla Hansen chipped in with 11 digs and 3 ace serves in 10 attempts.

West Central Valley finished their tournament off with a win over Guthrie Center.  After dropping the first set by a score of 25-9 the Wildcats bounced back to win 25-18 and 15-9 to take the match.  It was a well balanced attack with  Bailee Arnburg having 7 kills, 2 blocks, and 1 ace, Jess Pieper with 8 kills and 3 blocks, Allie Fillman with 23 digs and 100% serving and Nicole Chafa with 18 assists, 9 digs, and 100% serving.

Head coach Emilie Reha said the team was very motivated to avenge a loss last week against Guthrie Center and that helped them come back and rally to win the last two sets against the Tigers.  Reha said the team played the best they have all season as a team hitting .197 and serving 91%.

Bailee Arnburg was named to the all-tournament team.
