The City of Perry has been selected as the only recipient of a 2012 Brownfield’s multi-purpose grant in the seven state region.

The City Council accepted the award at their meeting this week.  City Administrator Butch Niebuhr says the grant is for the cleanup of the local Brownfield’s area, at the old Milwaukee Railroad site. Niebuhr says the grant includes $200,000 for assessment and another $200,000 for clean up.

Niebuhr says our regional Environmental Protection Agency headquarters, based out of Kansas City, is happy Perry was awarded the money and wants to see the City do a good job with the project.

Now that the grant has been accepted by the Council it now goes back to Kansas City to be approved by the EPA and Niebuhr says they can start putting out requests for qualifications for environmental contractors to help with the assessment

Only seven of the multi-purpose grants were awarded nationwide.
