The Greene County football team stands at 1-4 overall and 1-2 in Class 2A District 8 after five games of the high school football season. The latest loss was by a 51-0 final on Sept. 21 at the hands of the Kuemper Catholic Knights at Carroll Athletic Field. The undefeated Knights (5-0, 2-0) are ranked as high as fourth in Class 2A and have scored 45 or more points in each of their last four games. Kuemper led the Rams 35-0 at intermission.
The good news for the Rams is that the Kuemper game is behind them and the next three opponents have a combined record of two wins and 13 losses. Next up is a trip to Story City to face non-district opponent Roland-Story on Sept. 28. The Norsemen are 1-4, but they’ve been able to put points on the board, which hasn’t been the case for the Rams, who average less than 11 points per game. Among the Roland-Story losses are defeats by one, two, three, and 11 points. the lone victory was by seven points. The closest of the four Greene County losses was a 21-6 defeat in week two at the hands of North Polk (Alleman) after the Rams trailed 21-0 at the half.
Coverage of the Rams and Norsemen starts at 6:30 p.m. on Friday with kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on KGRA 98.9 FM. The undefeated Greene County freshmen (5-0) face the ninth graders from R-S at 4:45 p.m. to begin the football doubleheader.
