The Wallace Centers of Iowa will be hosting the first of two career exploration summer camp informational meeting and dinner on October 9 at 6:00 P.M. at the Country Life Center located at 2773 290th Street near Orient, Iowa.  The cost is $10 per person.  Reservations are needed and must be made by October 5.

High school freshmen and sophomores interested in potential careers in agriculture, science, social issues, health and wellness or conservation are invited to attend.  Parents and educators who teach science, family and consumer sciences, vocational agriculture, social studies and other subjects relating to the production and consumption of food are encouraged to attend.

While attending camp, students will participate in small group discussion talking with regional and statewide experts to find out more about careers related to these issues such as food production, soil and water conservations, health and service professionals.  In addition, students will take part in team building, physical activity, harvesting fresh food, meal preparation, and field trips to relevant sites such as Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Neely-Kinyon Research Farm, the World Food Prize, and Iowa State University.

Vice President of Marketing Ann Taylor says this is the first time The Wallace Centers of Iowa is hosting the dinner meeting, but the Real Soil, Real Food, A Real Difference summer camp experience is now in it’s third year.  Taylor feels this meeting will be a great way to encourage more students interested in the camp to participate.  Taylor says past camp participants have been invited so they can answer questions and comment on their experiences while attending camp.
