The Perry football team will travel to Council Bluffs tonight for a 3A District 1 showdown against the  Lewis Central Titans from the Hawkeye 10 conference.  Lewis Central enters the season 4-1 while Perry sits at 2-3.  The Titans were ranked as high as number two in the state until last week’s 43-24 loss to the hands of ADM.  Lewis Central was dealt a severe blow two weeks ago when the district’s leading rusher Alex Reed broke his collarbone in two places in a win against Atlantic.  The key Titan is feared to be lost until late November or December.  Quarterback Austin Simmons must now shoulder the load for Jim Dougan’s Titans.  Simmons has thrown for 357 yards and 5 touchdowns while Alex Martin will be the main runner.  Freshman kicker  Caleb Shudak has provided a spark for the Titans in the special teams department.  Shudak is the son of former Iowa State place kicker Jeff Shudak.

Perry will look to spread the offense around and preserve the health of sophomore quarterback Will Whiton.  Whiton has enjoyed a solid sophomore campaign with over 900 yards of total offense.  He has thrown 6 touchdowns and run for four more.  Perry will look to get Ben Daniels and Seth Stetzel going in the ground game to take some of the load off Whiton.  Perry lost a very physical game last week to Creston 34-13.  The Bluejays trailed only 20-13 late in the 3rd quarter.
