The Greene County cross-country teams competed in Class B (smaller class) at the Perry Leon Fox Invitational on Sept. 27. Clear skies, little wind, and temperatures in the low 70’s greeted hundreds of runners in the coed middle school/high school meet. The Rams were fourth on the girls’ side and fifth among boys’ teams. Earlham won the Class B girls’ team title with 41 points, followed by Roland-Story (Story City) 58, Madrid 110, Greene County 111, Panorama (Panora) 131, West Central Valley (Stuart) 154, Ogden 159, Guthrie Center 161, and Van Meter 163. The boys’ title in Class B went to Guthrie Center with 74 points, just ahead of Woodward Academy with 75. R-S had 114, Earlham 129, Greene County 141, Nodaway Valley (Greenfield) 143, Panorama 145, Ogden 161, VM 172, Madrid 199, and WCV 344.
Senior Jacob Simpson led the Rams with a fourth place finish. He ran the five kilometers (3.1 miles) in 18:14.15. Junior Allison Higgins was sixth to lead the GC girls. She was clocked in 16:25.35 for four kilometers (2.48 miles).
