Iowa Learning Farms and Women, Food and Agriculture Network are hosting a field day at a Jefferson farm next week.

The event takes place at Chris Henning’s farm and will focus on farm improvements, including cover crops and wetlands.

Henning will speak about what has been done to preserve her land and Sarah Carlson with the Practical Farmers of Iowa will discuss cover crop varieties, opportunities and benefits to add them into a corn-soybean rotation. ISU Extension water quality engineer Matt Helmers will also present information on the Science-based Trials of Row-crops Prairie project.

The event is free, open to the public and includes a complimentary lunch, but an RSVP is recommended.  To register call the Iowa Learning Farms at 294-8912 by Wednesday.  Henning’s farm is located at 1931 Q Avenue, southeast of Jefferson.
