The Perry City Council met in regular session last night.

At the meeting, City Administrator Butch Niebuhr shared the Tyson’s well went out a week ago and since then they have been running completely off the City’s  sewer system.  Niebuhr says the system has been able to keep up with demand without, despite Tyson using between one and one-point-two million gallons of water per day.  The plant pays the city $1,000 per billing cycle for each statement they show up on.  Niebuhr says it might take until next spring or summer to tell if the city’s wells will be impacted.

Next Mayor Jay Pattee gave a proclamation declaring October 12th as CROP Hunger Walk Day.  Safety Committee member and Councilman Dr. Randy McCaulley then stated that he and Councilwoman Barb Wolling have met with Police Chief Dan Brickner about the City’s firing range.  McCaulley says things are moving forward quickly and the Chief has done a good job putting together a comprehensive plan.   Once some more testing is completed, the plan should be brought forth to the Mayor and Council.

After two public hearings the Council approved sale of the 7th and final Neighborhood Stabilization Program property at 1816 West 2nd Street to Joey Crain at a cost of $65,000.  The council also approved the first reading of an ordinance selling a piece of property on 3rd Street south of South Street to Anthony McKee who plans to use the property to expand his business.

The board then approved distribution of funds from money in an agreement with the Perry Water Works for compensation from Butch Niebuhr serving as the interim Superintendent since August 1st.  The city received $5,000 per month.  Half the money will go to the City’s general fund with the rest going to Niebuhr, finance officer Susie Moorhead and city clerk Corey Eastman.  Niebuhr says as long as everything goes through correctly, the new Superintendent should be able to start November 1st.

Finally the council approved the Police Department charging $10 per person for each set of fingerprints they take as a service to residents.
