Tonight the A-D-M boy’s football team returns home after a tough 1 point loss to Atlantic last Friday looking to get back in the win column on Homecoming weekend in Adel. The 1 point loss dropped the Tigers record to 5 -1 overall and 3-1 in District 1 of Class 3A. Tonight’s game is a non-district game against the Cardinals of Newton.

“This is an important game for us,” said Tigers Head Coach Mike Whisner, “We need to get back on the winning track, we’re excited to get back in front of the home fans, we’ve played 4 of our first six games on the road.”

The Tigers will rely heavily on senior tailback Jordan Grove who leads Class 3A in rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, total yards from scrimmage & total TD’s. Grove has rushed for 1,414 yards with 14 TD’s, he has 1,738 yards from scrimmage and has 21 total TD’s for the season. The Tigers will also rely on the strong right arm of senior quarterback Kyle Herrick, Herrick has thrown for 1,105 yards and 10 touchdowns and has a quarterback rating of 146.

“We need to move the ball running and throwing, be balanced,” Coach Whisner continued,” “We’ll also need to protect the football, we can’t have three turnovers like last week.”

Newton enters the game with 2 wins & four losses with both wins coming in the last three weeks, last weeks win over Dallas Center-Grimes & a victory over South Tama. Both wins were District wins so the Cardinals are a potential playoff team. Newton is led by sophomore quarterback Tyler Wood who has thrown for 810 yards with 4 TD passes and by senior running back Dakota Hills whose rushed for 249 yards & 3 TD’s.

“They’re tough,” Coach Whisner finished, “We need to be prepared, even though this is a non-district game we have to play our best game, we’ll prepare as if it’s a playoff game.”

Kickoff is set for 7:30, you can hear all the action on “Real Country” K-107.9 FM, part of the Raccoon Valley Radio Sports Network. Pre-game starts at 6:30, Curt Lowe & Brett Glenn will be on the call.
