The A-D-M Tigers bid for a second consecutive district title fell short Friday night as they lost in overtime to the Harlan Cyclones 23-17. Despite the loss, A-D-M will host a first round playoff game Wednesday night against Spencer. That occured when Creston was beaten by Lewis Central enabling the Tigers to finish second in District 1 of Class 3A.

A-D-M trailed 14-0 at halftime as Harlan fullback Trey Lansman hauled in two short touchdown passes from quarterback Adam Juhl, but the Tigers mounted a furious second half rally & tied the score at 17 to force overtime.

Tate Jensen got A-D-M on the board at the 7:00 minute mark of the third with a 41 yard catch & run on fourth down to cut the deficit to 14-7. After the Cyclones tallied a field goal, Sam Plaughman (Plow-man) narrowed the gap to 17-14 when he scooted 53 yards with 1:18 left in the third quarter.

It remained that way until A-D-M’s last possession when the Tigers mounted a drive that culminated with a 27 yard field goal by Sophomore Jonathon Reel, kicking for the injured Blake Hieman (Hy-man). The kick tied the score with 1:18 remaining and forced overtime.

Harlan won the coin toss and elected to play defense. After Kyle Herrick hit Grant Goeden (Gay-den) on a 7 yard pass on 1st down, the Tiger possession stalled forcing a field goal attempt by Reel. His 34 yard boot sailed wide left denying A-D-M a score in OT. On the Cyclones possession Austin Hess scored from 1 yard out on the second play giving Harlan the win and a district title with Creston’s loss.

The Tigers end the regular season 6-3 and 4-2 in district play. By finishing second in the district, A-D-M will host a home playoff game against the Tigers from Spencer. That game can be heard on “Real Country” K-107 this Wednesday night, kickoff is set for 7pm.
