The Waukee Police Department is kicking off their annual Christmas Drive today.

The project is a coordinated project to obtain food and gifts for families in need throughout the school district.  Cash donations will be used to purchase additional “fill in” items and only new, unwrapped toys will be accepted, no clothing.  Other needed items include paper products such as towels, toilet tissue, hand soap, laundry soap and cleaning products.

Last year, the project assisted 126 families, including 341 seniors and 27 children.  The department anticipates the needs this year will be greater because of financial hardships many families are experiencing and every little bit counts.

Cash and toy donations can be dropped off at the Waukee Police Department through December 17th while food items should be dropped off at the food pantry at Westview Church.

Families in need of assistance can apply for the program online at Waukee.org/2012ChristmasDrive.html.  Applications must be received by November 30th.
