Family care giving takes many forms. You may help an older adult with: transportation, housekeeping, personal care, emotional support, medical decisions, financial concerns or legal issues. If you do one or more, you are a family caregiver. Whether you provide care at home or are responsible for someone in a care facility, either down the block or miles away, you still face many challenges.

Guthrie County Extension Office will host a 6-part Powerful Tools for Caregivers Program at their offices 212 State Street in Guthrie Center.  Weekly classes will be held each Tuesday starting November 13 through December 18 from 6:00 P.M.  to 8:30 P.M.  Registration for all 6 classes is a one-time $15.00 fee.  Guthrie County Extension Office Coordinator Mary Ebert says participants are expected to attend all 6 classes.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an educational program designed to provide tools you need to take care of yourself. If you take good care of yourself, you will be better prepared to take good care of your loved one. As a participant you will learn how to: reduce stress, improve self-confidence, better communicate feelings, balance your life, increase ability to make tough decisions and locate helpful resources Ebert added.

For more information on specific class dates and times, or to register please call Mary Ebert 641-747-2276 or online at mebert@iastate.edu.
