Menlo Library held a very successful silent auction last weekend that raised over $1,100.  Money from the auction, along with the proceeds received from the Book & Bake Sale last spring, will go towards the purchase of an Early Literacy Station.   Menlo Public Library Director Annette Murphy says they have applied for a matching grant from the Guthrie County Community Foundation and once the grant is approved, they will be ready to purchase.

Murphy says the Early Literacy Station is actually a computer designed for teaching. Since it requires no Internet connection, it is safe and secure.  The different programs available are geared for age groups 2-5, K-2nd, 3rd-5th, & the next grade group 6th-8th is the only program that goes onto the internet. The programs are “games” that teach reading, math, science & computer skills.  Murphy says a tutor or an outside-of-school learning program would cost a lot more than one Station and she is extremely excited about being able to offer this to the patrons.

Murphy adds that she just loves it when people are completely taken aback at what their “little” library has, and is, accomplishing.
