The first 2012-13 high school girls’ basketball game for the Greene County Rams resulted in a 49-42 victory in Des Moines on Tuesday night vs. the Saydel Eagles. Senior Jennifer Kennedy scored 18 points and the Rams never trailed in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference contest. Sophomores Stacy Mears and Kayla Mobley added 10 and nine points, respectively for Chad Morton’s team. Kennedy had 10 rebounds and Quinn Flack added eight boards. Greene County overcame 31 turnovers to get in the win column for the first time in a season opener in recent seasons. Saydel only turned the ball over 13 times, but the Eagles had a poor shooting night, making just 15 of 54 field goal attempts. Saydel dropped to 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Eagles defeated Van Meter 51-41 on Monday night in Des Moines. Last night’s game was heard on KGRA 98.9 FM.

The Rams play four of their first five games away from home including their next contest on Nov. 27 in Story City vs. Roland-Story. That’s a girl/boy doubleheader on KG98 starting at 6 p.m.
