ADM girls’ varsity basketball coach Brett Watson was pleased with his team on Tuesday when they defeated Van Meter on the road 58-36.  But Watson was happy with more than just the results on the scoreboard as we discovered when we asked him if there was anything out of the game he saw that he wasn’t expecting going into Tuesday night’s contest.

“We knew coming into this year that we’re gonna be led by our forwards but our guards really stepped up and gave us some scoring that we really need,” Watson reported.  “So that was great to see our guards make some shots, penetrate in there, make some very good plays so I was very pleased.”

Watson also stated that the other pleasant surprise was a couple freshmen stepping up; Brian Mueller had 10 points and Molly Jacobsen had 8 points in their varsity debuts.

When asked about ADM’s next opponent, Watson had nothing but positive things to say about the Atlantic team.

“We played them last year and home and it was a very, very good game, and we beat them in overtime,” Watson recalled.  “Now we go to their place and I imagine they have some revenge on their mind.  I know they’re a pretty young squad, I know they’re coached real well, they’ll be prepared and I know they’ll give us a very good battle.”

Atlantic lost 65-37 at Council Bluffs A-L in their only game this season.
