The first home action for the Greene County High School varsity basketball teams were held on Friday night in the middle school gym in Jefferson against the Mustangs of PCM. The Rams won the girls’ game 46-45 in overtime while the Mustangs won 47-31 in the boys’ contest. Both games were broadcast on KG98.

Sophomore Kayla Mobley scored 15 points and senior Jennifer Kennedy added 11 for the Greene County girls, who improved to 3-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and overall. Abbi Gilson of PCM scored 21 points including a basket with five seconds left in regulation to tie the game 41-41. Greene County led 46-43 with less than 10 seconds play in overtime with PCM possessing the ball. The Mustangs (1-3, 0-3) missed a potential game-tying three-point shot with four seconds to play. The Mustangs rebounded the miss and put it in the hoop, but time ran out and the Rams had a second straight win by the score of 46-45. The Rams also won in Story City on Nov. 27 by that score vs. Roland-Story.

The boys’ game was tied at 21-21 at halftime and PCM led by four points at 35-31 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Mustangs score 12 points while the Rams were shut out. In all, Greene County went the final nine minutes of the contest without a single point. Senior cousins Justin and Reed Ostrander led the Rams in scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively. PCM was paced to senior post Alex De Witte (De Witt) with 15 points and senior guard Michael Neff with 13.

The PCM boys are 3-0 on the season and 2-0 the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference while the Rams fell to 0-2 overall and in conference play.

The Greene County teams are in Colfax vs. Colfax-Mingo on Tuesday night and both games can be heard on KGRA 98.9 FM starting with pre-game at 5:45 p.m.
