Stuart Rescue Unit members, Paramedic Specialist Kelly Surber and PRN Bill Denning, will be holding CPR and First Aid classes December 29 at the Stuart Fire Hall, 211 E. Front Street and are open to the public.

Starting at 8:00 A.M., they will be offering Healthcare Provider CPR – Renewal and is designed for health care providers with a non-expired Healthcare Provider CPR card.  This provides the healthcare professional with the most current updated information and re-verifies CPR skills which include One and Two-rescuer CPR, AED, BVM and Barrier device use.  This 3-hour course provides a certification with a two-year recommended renewal period. The cost to attend is $40.

Stuart Rescue Unit PRN Bill Denning encourages participants to pre-register in order for them to be able to issue certification cards immediately upon completion of this class.

Starting at 1:00 P.M., they will be offering Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED and is designed for parents, grandparents, babysitters and others charged with the responsibility of caring for children eight years of age and under.  Participants will learn prevention practices and rescue techniques for children and infant victims of breathing problems, choking and cardiac arrest.  They will also learn the proper response to burns and bleeding emergencies, medical emergencies, bone injuries, bites, stings and poisoning.  This 3-1/2 hour course is provided as informational only and not for certification.  The cost to attend is $25.

Denning feels the offering of these classes is sure to benefit the community and, while spaces are still available for both classes, registration must be made by Saturday, December 22.

Denning understands that with the upcoming holidays, not everyone who is interested in these classes will be able to find the time to take them.  Stuart Rescue Unit will be holding both these classes again on January 26, 2013 and those interested should register by January 19, 2013.

For more information, or to register for these classes, call Bill Denning or Kelly Surber at 515-523-2400.
