The City of Dexter is currently using its emergency connection to Xenia Rural Water to make some much-needed upgrades to the Dexter Treatment Plant and Well.  Public Works Manager Jamie Schirm says even though there is no emergency, the connection allows the City to continue to provide adequate water to its citizens while allowing contractors sufficient time to make needed repairs.

For a minimum of two weeks, possibly longer, the residents of Dexter are urged to not use this water in fish tanks, as it has been known to kill fish.  It is also recommended that anyone on dialysis should use water other than Xenia.  Schirm warns residents that the City will not be responsible if people do either of these things.

Once the City is finished with the upgrades and starts using the plant there may be an odor to the water, which will not cause any problems.  This is normal when there is a changeover of two different water sources and should not last long Schirm added.
