There are not too many teams in the 3A class in the state of Iowa that start a freshmen and sophomore in the backcourt.  That is the situation Perry has this year and its quite alright with Head Coach Ned Menke.  Freshman Shammond Ivory and sophomore Will Whiton are trying to find their chemistry after 3 games and a 1-2 start.

It’s great to play along side Shammon, he is coming along very well.  In fact a lot of our guys have played basketball on the same team since we were little.  Benny, Cavan, Zach…we know each other very well and Shammond in fitting in quite well,” stated Whiton.

Will knows what its like to be a starting point guard as a freshman as it was that exact situation that he faced a year ago.

“It’s tough.  I know I really worked on my ball handling every day this offseason to try and improve.  Last year I was pretty much the only point guard so I had to bring it up every night.  This year, its nice to have Shammond to lean on a little and give the defense a different dimmension.”

Perry is off to a 1-2 start and the combination of Whiton and Ivory are averaging 24 points per game.  Perry returns to action Friday night at Boone in a girl boy doubleheader.  The games can be heard on KDLS with Brett Roberts.
