Prior to the start of the high school wrestling season Greene County head coach Mark Sawhill told the media his 2012-13 squad had some good individuals on it, but open weight classes would cause the Rams to give up dual meet points. Even though that has been the case in the first two weeks of the season the Rams have been able to put together a 9-3 dual meet record including a 4-1 mark on Dec. 8 at the Ogden dual meet tournament. “We forfeited three weights (106, 182, 195) on Saturday, but still came out second in our pool and third overall out of 10 teams. I thought out kids wrestling very well and it was a good day for us,” said the veteran coach.

The 10-team event was split into two pools of five with each squad wrestling four times within their pool. In the final round the two pool winners met, as did the two teams finishing second, third, fourth, and fifth in their respective pools. Greene County opened the day with a 46-36 victory over Gilbert, which was followed by a 38-36 win vs. Carroll High. The Rams won 39-33 vs. Ogden before falling to Humboldt 39-30. The final dual meet went to Greene County by a 40-36 score vs. Kuemper Catholic (Carroll) and the Ram officially finished in third place. GC was the only team to give champion Humboldt a close meet. The Rams won seven of the 11 matches actually wrestled vs. the Wildcats, but the 18 points in forfeits Greene County surrendered were too much to overcome against a Humboldt team that fielded all 14 weight classes.

The Rams had four individuals that won all their matches on Saturday and placed first in their weight classes.  Freshman Daric Whipple (138), junior Jeremy Scheuermann (145), senior Ike Eischeid (152), and senior Aaron Beaman (285) were unbeaten on the day. Eischeid was 4-0 while the others went 5-0 at Ogden. Scheuermann and Beaman remain undefeated on the season. Whipple and junior Dylan Forkner each have just one loss overall. Forkner fell to two-time state place winner Jared Eischeid of Kuemper Catholic by a 3-0 final to snap his 11 match winning streak to begin the season.

The Rams are back in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action on Dec. 13 in Maxwell vs. CMB and Saydel (Des Moines).
