The Panorama (Panora) girls and Greene County (Jefferson) boys were winners on Saturday night in Jefferson when the two schools met in non-conference high school basketball. Panorama is ranked seventh among Class 2A girls’ teams and the Panthers improved to 6-1 with a 56-32 victory. Junior Olivia Godrey scored 17 points and seniors Sidney Beckman and Cadence Simmons each added 10 for Panorama. The Panthers led 11-9 after one quarter and were up 26-16 at intermission. They steadily pulled away in the second half, which included a 20-point fourth quarter that saw Panorama make nine of 10 shots from the field. The Rams were led in scoring by senior Jennifer Kennedy with 13 points and sophomore Kayla Mobley with 10. Greene County started the season with three wins, but since has dropped three games in a row.

The Rams rode a 47-point second half to a 68-43 victory in the boys’ contest. Greene County led 10-8 at the end of the first quarter and was up 21-12 at intermission. The Rams came out hot in the second half and scored 21 points in the first 5:23 of the third quarter to put the game away. Panorama scored 32 points in the second half and both teams far exceeded their early season game scoring averages. Greene County senior Justin Ostrander scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half while Ostrander’s cousins, Reed, had 18 points to lead the Rams. Seniors Wyatt Beaman had 11 points and senior Tory Beger added 10, both of which were season high point totals. Panorama has a very young squad that was led on Saturday by sophomore Luke Webner with 16 points and freshman Aaron Klinge (Kling) with 12. Kling’s points came on a quartet of three-point goals.The Panthers fell to 0-5 on the season while the Rams improved to 2-3.

The Rams host South Hamilton (Jewell) on Dec. 11 in the middle school gym in Jefferson in two games that can be heard on KGRA 98.9 FM. Pre-game is at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 and the boys’ game starting at approximately 7:30 p.m.
