The ADM boys’ basketball team hosts the Boone Friday, December 14th, after losing in Carroll on Tuesday, December 11th, 67-42. We spoke with head coach Aaron Mager about what his team has been working on the past several evenings at practice in preparation for the Toreadors.
“A lot of it is defensive positioning, you know trying to be in a better relationship to the ball so that we can help each other more and then boxing out, finishing possessions off defensively,” Mager explained. “And then offensively what we’re really trying to accomplish is just get better looks and then do all we can to make those shots.”
At the end of the game in Carroll Mager called for quite a bit of full-court pressure and we asked him why they switched to press. “One of the things we were trying to do is play it a little more… conservative I guess you could say,” said Mager. “Just ‘cause we were trying to shore up passing lanes and gaps in our defense so trying to contain a dribbler.” Coach Mager noted that it wasn’t something new, and in fact the Tigers were using press more often early in the season.
