Greene County tested the unbeaten Nevada Cubs on Friday night in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference boys’ basketball in Jefferson, but the Cubs went home with a 6-0 record, both overall and in the conference, after winning 64-59. The point total was the lowest of the season for Nevada, but they had four players score in double figures, led by senior Colynn Black with 20 points. The Cubs made nine goals from three-point range to four for the Rams, which proved to be crucial. Greene County had 26 points from senior Reed Ostrander, who battled through leg cramps. Sophomore Landon Braun added 10 points for Greene County. The Cubs limited 6′ 8″ senior Justin Ostrander to just six points, but two of them came on a forceful two-handed dunk in the third quarter.

A 13-4 surge late in the first half carried the Cubs to a 32-27 halftime lead, which they expanded to as many as 14 points with 5:35 remaining in the game. The Rams fought back to get to within 63-59 with 11 seconds to play.

Greene County fell to 2-5 overall and 1-5 in HOIAC games.
