The varsity basketball teams from Greene County High School are at home in the middle school gym in Jefferson tonight with the Gilbert Tigers. Both games will be broadcast on KGRA, 98.9 FM, with pre-game at 5:45 p.m., the start of the girls’ game at 6 p.m., and the boys’ tipping off around 7:30 p.m.

The Gilbert girls are 6-3 overall and 6-1 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference action while the Rams are 5-4 overall and 5-2 in the league. On the boys’ side, Gilbert is 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference and Greene County is 2-6 overall and 1-5 in conference games. The Rams have lost their last three games.

The Greene County girls have already equaled the win total from the entire 2011-12 season and are led in scoring by senior Jennifer Kennedy. The 5′ 10″ guard averages 17 points per game.

Greene County played its last boys’ game without leading scorer and rebounder Reed Ostrander. The 6′ 3″ senior missed Saturday’s 63-53 loss at Perry with fluid on the knee after suffering the injury in a Friday night home court loss to Nevada. Despite the injury, he played the majority of the game and scored a season high 26 points.
