The Gilbert Tigers and Greene County Rams split a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference basketball doubleheader in Jefferson on Tuesday night. The Rams won the girls’ game 38-32 before the Tigers won the boys’ game 70-56. Both games were heard on KGRA 98.9 FM.

Senior Jennifer Kennedy has led the Rams in scoring all scoring, which she did again Tuesday, but Kennedy didn’t get on the scoreboard against Gilbert until 14 minutes and 16 seconds had been played. She finished with 16 points and was the only player on either team to reach double figures. Junior Thea Ballard came off the Greene County bench to added eight points as the Rams improved to 6-2 in the conference and 6-4 overall. Gilbert is also 6-2 and 6-4.

In the boys’ game, Gilbert led 40-25 early in the second half before the Rams got the offense going and closed the gap to 57-56 on a Tory Beger (Beeg-er) three-point goal with 3:36 left in the game. The Rams did not score another point the rest of the night, however, and Greene County fell to 1-6 int he conference and 2-7 overall. The Tigers improved to 4-3 overall and in conference play. Beger scored 22 points, a career high for him, while Justin Ostrander added 16 points and Reed Ostrander scored 11. Gilbert had four players in double figures led by Jordan Knock with 19 and Thomas Pollard with 18.

The Greene County teams are scheduled to play on 98.9 FM in Alleman on Thursday night vs. North Polk.
