The first half of the high school wrestling season is in the books for the Greene County Rams and the season to date has had far more wins than losses. The Rams are 13-4 overall in dual meets and 4-0 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The combined varsity record in individual matches is  156-61.

Topping the team in victories are senior Aaron Beaman (220 lbs.) and junior Jeremy Scheuermann (145), both at 19-1. Junior Dylan Forkner (126) is 18-1 and is the lone Greene County wrestler ranked in their weight class by The Predicament wrestling publication. Forkner is ranked seventh in Class 2A. Other top records on the Greene County team belong to sophomore Jordan Challen at 132 (18-3), freshman Daric Whipple at 138 (17-4), junior Jake Challen at 113 (16-4), and sophomore Abe Yoder at 120 (16-5).

Forfeits have been the only real downside in the first half of the season. The Rams do not have anyone at the lowest weight class, 106 lbs., but at times they forfeited four weight classes in November and December. Head coach Mark Sawhill stated it took a while for some wrestlers to get to their desired weight class, but he’s hopeful the Rams will be able to fill 13 of the 14 weight classes for most of the rest of the season.

Greene County will resume the 2013 portion of the season on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Coon Rapids-Bayard Invitational in Coon Rapids.
