More snow fell in Central Iowa last night and this morning, bringing with it some measurable snowfall.  The Greene County Sheriff’s Department encourages you to be a safe driver, especially on county and rural roads.

Chief Deputy Jack Williams offers some safe driving reminders during the wintertime. People are more apt to stopping or hitting their brakes hard when they see patches of ice or snow covered roads.  Instead, Williams suggests that you lightly tap your brakes and slow down.  He says that for winter driving, you should go slower on the roads anyway and give yourself plenty of reaction time in case someone ahead of you slows down suddenly.

When there’s high winds and blowing snow, Deputy Williams urges you to not use high beam headlights because it will hinder your visibility.  And if visibility is an issue and you are going at slower speeds, Williams reminds you to use your hazard lights to create more notice for people behind you so you don’t cause an accident.
