Earlier this month, Jefferson Matters: Main Street Design Committee met with Main Street Iowa’s design consultant Tim Reinders and design assistant Katelyn Rutledge.  There were three Jefferson downtown building owners requesting Main Street Iowa design assistance.

City Administrator Mike Palmer and Building Inspector Mike Wright reviewed the recent stabilization of 111 East Lincoln Way and suggested that the city, Main Street Iowa and Jefferson Matters host a series of workshops to assist building owners with difficult decisions and situations.

The Design Committee joined Reinders and Rutledge to review requests and remove a suspended ceiling panels to investigate the cause of a downdrift, looked at neon signs and metal storefronts of buildings and toured a rehab project in progress.  Finally, Reinders and Rutledge will follow up with professional  sketches to help owners visualize their projects.

At the last Chamber Board of Directors meeting in December, Alan Robinson of Jefferson Matters: Main Street said that they are getting together various projects from businesses to do for next year.  The goal is to help improve the business buildings in the town square area so they can benefit being a designated Main Street Community.
