The semester break at the University of Iowa isn’t as long for Andy Carman as it is for most students, but the 2010 Jefferson-Scranton High School graduate isn’t complaining. Carman returns to Iowa City on January 5 to resume practicing with his Hawkeye teammates for the indoor track and field season. Academic classes don’t start until Jan. 22 at Iowa. A former Drake Relays runner-up and state high school runner-up, Carman throws the shot put and discus for the Hawkeyes. He’s limited to just the shot put during the indoor season, which starts on Jan. 12 with a meet in Iowa City. On being a Hawkeye thrower, the redshirt sophomore said, “I love it!”

Carman’s goals include qualifying for the NCAA Division I National Championships and placing high in the Big 10 Championships. He is the son of Doug and Karen Carman of rural Jefferson and is studying Business Finance, as well as Entrepreneurialship.
