After not playing any games in more than two weeks, the Greene County High School basketball teams will be in action twice this weekend. The Rams will play girl/boy doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday nights as the 2013 portion of the season gets underway. Greene County plays host to Saydel (Des Moines) on Friday in the middle school gym in Jefferson before traveling to Gowrie to face non-conference opponent Prairie Valley on Saturday night.

The Greene County girls are 6-4 overall and 6-2 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. Coach Chad Morton’s Rams opened the season in November by winning in Des Moines over Saydel 49-42. This will be the first of two meetings between the boys’ teams. The Greene County boys are 2-7 overall and 1-6 in the conference. The Rams will have an opportunity to pick up as many wins this weekend as they have the entire season so far. Saydel has just one win this season and Prairie Valley is winless heading into the weekend.

Both doubleheaders can be heard on KGRA, 98.9 FM. Our coverage Friday and Saturday starts at 5:45 p.m. with the girls’ game starting at 6 p.m. and the boys playing around 7:30 p.m.
