The next opponent for the ADM basketball teams are the Bombers of Ballard.  There are few high school teams in any sport, guys’ or girls’, that have been as consistent and dominant as the Ballard girls’ basketball team over the last decade.  For the last seven years there has been one constant in 3A girls’ basketball; Ballard has been one of the last four teams remaining.

ADM head coach Brett Watson spoke about the recent history of Ballard as a perennial powerhouse.  “When you’re playing Ballard you know you’re playing a very tradition-rich team,” remarked Watson.  “Last year they were in the semi finals of 3A and they’re always in the state tournament so you know they’ve got girls who know how to win.”

Ballard being a conference opponent, ADM knows the Bombers well, and nearly came up with a big upset last season.  “Last year we had an opportunity at home, we had them down but they had a group of girls that just knew how to win,” Watson acknowledged.  “They just came back and beat us and that was a semi finals team, so it showed we’re capable and how close we were last year.”

While Ballard certainly has the history and name recognition, it’s a team that looks vastly different than last year with only two seniors on the team.  Senior Katie Ahrenholtz leads the Bombers with 16 points per game, but after that, the offense drops off significantly, and ADM knows this is a conference game they can come away with at home, especially after being so close to doing so last year.

The Lincoln Savings Bank pre-game show begins at 5:45 PM on Friday, January 4th, with the tip-off at 6 o’clock on 107.9, K-107.
