The wait is officially over, Shopko Hometown in Jefferson held its Grand Opening yesterday.

After the merger of Pamida and Shopko, Jefferson was part of Shopko’s final phase of new Hometown stores.  Manager Cory Townsend says he was an Assistant Manager with the Shopko Hometown in Perry for a couple of months before he was hired as the Store Manager for the Jefferson location.  Townsend comments that the Perry location was one of the first stores to open as a Shopko Hometown so he was familiar with the transition.

During the grand opening ceremonies, the Chamber was on hand for the ribbon-cutting and there were a few speeches given along with a check from Shopko made out to Greene County High School for $2,500.  Townsend comments that its Shopko’s way of giving back to the community.

“It went specifically to the high school, that was predetermined from the corporate level as well through (Shopko’s) the Foundation.  It’s basically a $2500 check they can use it in whatever way they feel necessary.  Just trying to give back a little to the community.”

Townsend points out that if there’s an item that a customer wants in the store, they can ask for a book to add it to and then he takes those suggestions to the corporate office for further discussion.  He continues saying that it’s a work in progress getting the store up and fully functioning but the response from the grand opening was great and he hopes that Shopko Hometown becomes apart of Jefferson’s growing community.
