As 2013 begins, everyone starts the year off by making resolutions and one of the most common resolution is losing weight and eating healthy.

To help you stick with your losing weight resolution, Simone Lang, wellness director and a certified personal trainer with Greene County Community Center, offers some tips and information.  One big issue that people have is that exercising becomes boring or just another job.  Lang suggests that you find something you love to do and then if you add variety to your workout, then exercising tends not to be boring and a routine.  Along with changing up your exercise program, your results will continue to increase and not plateau.

“So that person that’s been on the treadmill or hitting that cardio hard, when they’re not burning as many calories or seeing the results after a month or two, that’s because the body has adapted-which is an amazing process-but it can be discouraging when it comes to our fitness goals and our time in the gym.”

As far as eating healthier, sometimes you’ll eat healthy but then you have one bad day and you binge eat and throw the whole healthy eating plan out the door.  Lang says to stick with a method that is suggested by a lot of coaches or trainers.

“To use the 80/20 rule.  Now if we can eat healthy 80% or more of the time, those days we fall off the wagon if you will, don’t sweat them too much just get back after it the next day and move along.”

Another great idea is what Lang calls JERF Just Eat Real Foods.  He says the more you eat natural, whole foods and less processed foods or foods that are high in sugar the better shape you’ll be in.  He adds that the better you feel internally, the better you will express externally from your mood to the look of your skin.
