The ADM girls’ basketball team needs to return their focus back to “business as usual” this week after an exciting, roller coaster of a game on Tuesday, January 22nd, against Carroll.  Coming off of an emotional win, a 62-61 overtime victory, and beating a team that had earlier beaten them by one point, it may be difficult to bring the attention back to the next task at hand.  Add to that their next game is on the road in Boone, an opponent that ADM beat by 14 the first time they met, and you’ve got a number of the elements of what is referred to as a “trap game.”

A trap game is when a team might go in expecting a win and may be looking past the opponent in front of them, perhaps looking ahead to games against teams with better records (in this case, Perry on Saturday, January 26th, and rival Dallas Center-Grimes on Tuesday, January 29th).  However when we spoke with junior Madi Bertman after the victory against Carroll, she talkedabout how ADM is going into the game in Boone expecting a real test.

Bertman, who led the Tigers with 14 points in their victory over the Toreadors earlier in the season, said that she expects the rematch to be a much closer contest.  Bertman spoke highly of Boone and acknowledged that in Boone’s gym this time around the game could be an entirely different animal altogether.  Bertman is coming off being named the Shottenkirk Chevrolet Player of the Game on Tuesday night as she was second on the team in points with 14 and came up with big steals and rebounds as well as played very well defensively guarding Carroll’s leading scorer Brittany Holdsworth.  It may take another big performance out of ADM’s leading scorer to complete the season sweep of the Toreadors in Boone.

The game can be heard on 107.9, K-107, with the Lincoln Savings Bank Pregame Show starting at 5:45 PM, tip-off at 6 PM.
