The Nevada Cubs swept a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference basketball doubleheader on Jan. 25 from the Greene County Rams on the Cubs’ home floor. Both games were heard on KGRA, 98.9 FM. The Cubs won 37-33 in the girls’ game and 64-43 on the boys’ side. The loss dropped the Rams to 11-7 overall and 10-5 in the girls’ conference race while number 11 Nevada improved to 15-3 and 13-3. Jennifer Kennedy scored 14 points for the Rams while Amber Ramthun led the Cubs with nine. Nevada had seven field goals from three-point range to just six two-pointers.

The boys’ game saw the Cubs lead 37-14 at halftime and Greene County fell behind by as many as 30 points in the third quarter. Senior Joey Badger scored 14 points for Nevada after entering the game averaging one point per contest. The Rams had 16 points from senior Justin Ostrander. The Cubs and PCM (Monroe) remain tied for first place in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference at 12-1 and Nevada is 14-3 overall. Greene County fell to 6-11 on the season and 4-10 in conference games.

The Greene County teams remain on the road as they go to Gilbert on Jan. 29 for two games. Coverage on KG98 starts at 5:45 p.m. with the girls’ game at 6 p.m. and the boys’ following at approximately 7:30 p.m.
