The Greene County High School basketball teams travel to Gilbert tonight (Tuesday) for a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheader. Both games can be heard on KGRA 98.9 FM with coverage starting at 5:45 p.m. The girls begin at 6 p.m. and the boys will follow around 7:30 p.m.
Greene County needs one more victory to clinch a winning season in girls’ basketball. Coach Chad Morton’s Rams are 11-7 overall and 10-5 in the conference while the Tigers are 10-10 overall and 9-7 in the league. Senior Jennifer Kennedy has 1,079 points for her career and she needs just 10 more points to become the career scoring leading in five-player basketball for a Jefferson-based program.
The Greene County boys are 6-11 on the season and 4-10 in the conference. Six-foot, eight inch senior Justin Ostrander averages over 16 points a game to lead the Rams in scoring. Gilbert is 9-8 overall and 9-6 in Heart of Iowa Conference action.
The Greene County girls and GIlbert boys were winners the first time the teams met.
