The Raccoon River Valley Trail Association’s Board of Directors will be hosting the first ever trail volunteers meeting on Saturday, February 9th, at the Guthrie County State Bank in Panora from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM.
Raccoon Valley Radio spoke with RRVT Association board member Chuck Offenberger to learn more details about the event.  Offenberger said he is proud to say the RRVT is now one of the longest paved recreational trails in the U.S. as the total mileage between Waukee and Jefferson is now 89 miles.  And, this is the only paved trail in Iowa that allows the use of snowmobiles on it, as long as there’s 4 inches or more of snow Offenberger added.
There are more opportunities than ever before for volunteers to actively support the trail.  Those include assisting with trail events, like the May 11 “Market to Market Relay” on the trail and the June 1 grand opening celebration of the completed RRVT.  In addition, a speakers bureau is being formed to do programs about the trail, and the RRVT Association is seeking to have a designated “trail representative” in each community.
